I’m not a medical student, I’m a rare disease patient looking for knowledge.
Perhaps someone could explain this to me, please? I’m trying to understand how adrenaline and cortisol go hand and hand. I have Cushing’s Disease that was caused by an ACTH secreting pituitary macroadenoma. So my cortisol was through the roof which leaves Cushing’s patients feeling amped up. A feeling that one would associate with adrenaline pumping through the body. I get that when the brain sees a threat like an angry squirrel 🐿 😂 that the body goes into fight or flight response that would set off several actions.
People assume that all you need to do is lower your stress. I can tell you that yoga and meditation can only do so much! I knew something was very wrong when I realized that my hands were shaking during meditation 🧘‍♂️ 👋 You can’t just calm down a tumor. That cortisol it’s so powerful that you don’t even notice simple stress reducing changes.
Most Cushies understand the basics of the HPA and the post op hell of adrenal insufficiency.
I’m always wanting to know more.
If the ACTH is only affecting the cortex and adrenaline is made in the middle, what is the link that would cause them both to go up in my situation if there’s not a perceived threat?
My cortisol levels are high more than not. Does that just drag the adrenaline along?

You are absolutely incredible.

I’m currently writing a paper on Secondary Adrenal Insufficiency, and I understood why ACTH was released, however, I never really grasped what it did and it’s role in how stress is managed.

I don’t even know how, but you made me understand things I never had questions to! This really allows me to write about this condition in a whole new light; therefore, it allows me to understand the measures our bodies will go to in order to deal with stress, and how those measures can be related to high blood pressure and the fight-or-flight response (alongside others).

You’re amazing, thank you.

@Dr Matt & Dr Mike Not sure if you would know, I don’t do it no more but when I had my first synacthen test a year ago but I smoked cannabis everyday for 5 years but quit 7 months ago would that affect synacthen test because of me basically doing it during a cannabis hangover and being a heavy user.
