Hello Kelvin Le, I found the settings for Parity and stop bits but I can't see to find how I'm supposed to set the number of bits. I have a device and it uses 7 bits instead of 8. Would you happen to know? and great example!

Earvin Nill Castillo 01/09/2021 - 02:14

Hi! I've been testing your program with other instruments that needs serial port connection and it is working well. But when I use the write function for the plc program, I send the command, I received the command but not the whole data comes up.

Many thanks man, very well done!

Is this only suitable for Arduino cases? What about if I choose a plug and play type of mid range RFID reader?

Barış Karaosman 01/09/2021 - 02:14

Thanks for the nice tutorial, very well done. May i ask how can i understand if the device is unplugged or not? I mean, when i unplug my Arduino, program still says there's some device on that ComPort. Long story short, is there any way to understand that program is not receiving any data because port is unplugged?

Thank you for this video, very educational.
I wanna ask a question, when i tyr to send  a byte just after receiving a specific character like "OK" or "A" or "1" the program freeze. Can you please give a hint about it.

Peter Lynes 01/09/2021 - 02:14

I just downloaded and tried it out. No errors and it worked good using VB Express Version 13 and Windows 7. Thank you so much Kelvin. I used (2) USB cables and (2) generic Arduino type FTDI modules. First I got the cables tested using (2) sessions of Coolterm and checking the installed comm port drivers within Windows. It isn't difficult to see which comm ports are in use by plugging/unplugging each of the FTDI modules. Then I made it a loopback connection with just one cable and FTDI module, which is the way your program is setup. I want to caution people when using these modules you only connect GND, Tx and Rx. The Vcc should probably not be connected. Now I think I can use your program as a basis to write a receive only program and store data to disk. For those who don't know, all the Visual Studio program languages are available for 30 day tryout at least if you have an account at the MS store. How many of us can pay $500 for our hobby. I know I can't.
